Donald Wheeles Gupton

Donald Wheeles Gupton, aged 82, of Castle Hayne, NC, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025 at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center. Donald was born on October 16, 1943, in Franklin County, NC, he dedicated his life to his family, faith, and community.

A talented and professional handyman, Donald was renowned throughout the Wilmington area for his exceptional skill and craftsmanship. He could build and fix anything and was particularly passionate about the repair and restoration of lawn mowers. His work was highly sought after and most often came through referrals and word of mouth, a testament to his reputation and integrity.

Donald had a special affection for the creatures in his backyard, notably the squirrels he fed and named-Esther, Jesus, and Moses, who seemed to recognize him and respond to their names. This gentle connection with nature was one of many ways he demonstrated his kind spirit.

He was a devoted member of the Gospel Fellowship Holiness Church, where his unwavering faith and love for his church family were evident. Donald cherished his time spent at church and with his loved ones, leaving a legacy of warmth and compassion.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Pastor Merline Hammonds Gupton, with whom he shared 48 wonderful years. Remembered are his grandchildren Titan Packer, Kenneth Stone, and Lucas Stone.

He is survived by his loving wife of seven years, Gloria Patterson Gupton; daughter Shermane G. Parker; and adopted children when he married Merline, Brenda Meshaw and her family and Donna Smith and her family and adopted children when he married Gloria to include, Cindy Patterson, James Patterson, and David Patterson. He also leaves behind grandchildren Amanda Parker, Andrew Parker, Abigail Parker, Austin Parker, Ayden Clowdus, Addyson Clowdus, and Allyson Clowdus; great-grandchildren Jayden Packer, Novalea Packer, Jeremiah Parker, Chloe Parker; sibling, Alice Strother, Elaine Burton and Ronnie Gupton' and his cherished and beloved canine companion, "LuLu".

A memorial service to remember and honor Donald will be held at 2 pm Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Gospel Fellowship Holiness Church, 3121 Alex Trask Dr., Castle Hayne, NC 28429, led by Pastor Billy Cooper.
