In Loving Memory of Jean "JJ" Joiner May 4, 1951 – August 10,2025 Jean Joiner, known to friends and family as "JJ," passed away peacefully in her home in Fort Mill SC, surrounded by her husband, children and beloved grandchildren. She was 74 years old. Jean lived a life rich in kindness, humor, and quiet resilience. Born in Charlotte, NC. She grew up helping her father with outdoor projects and learning the art of gardening and cooking from her mother - a skill she would later perfect to the delight of everyone lucky enough to be invited for her famous Thanksgiving dinner or just a casual dinner date. Jean graduated from East Mecklenburg High School located in Charlotte, NC; followed by many years devoted to providing outstanding customer care and hospitality in the hotel industry. Jean had a lasting impression on both colleagues and clients for over 30 years spent with Marriott International. She met her husband, Bob in November of 1986 while they were both attending a sales convention in Winston-Salem, NC. Shortly after they had their first date at The Lamplighter restaurant in downtown Winston-Salem. The next four years were spent together enjoying golf tournaments, traveling, attending NASCAR races, and enjoying family time that included Bob's son Rob and daughter Julie; along with Jean's daughter Kimberlee. They married in November of 1990, followed by nearly 35 years of blissful marriage. They continued to enjoy traveling the world together, attending sporting events, spending quality time with close family friends, and most importantly never missing the opportunity for family gatherings. Jean had a way of lighting up a room with her overflowing happiness and one of a kind laugh. No matter where Jean was she could meet a stranger and talk with them for hours as if she'd known them for years. She touched so many people throughout the years with her genuine kindness and compassion for others. Jean believed that family and friends came first and would go out of her way to make them feel so very special and loved. She would be the first one to brighten your day when you were down and the first one to fight for you if you were too weak to fight for yourself. Jean was so giving and always made everyone feel so special for Birthdays and most of all at Christmas. If you knew Jean you'd know that you could barely see her beautiful Christmas tree through all the gifts so perfectly wrapped that covered the room. Her greatest joy came from her family: her husband Bob; her daughter Kimberlee and her son-in-law Chris, her stepdaughter Julie and stepson Rob. Her five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter who knew her as "Grammy", her surviving oldest sister Jewell; oldest brother Marvin Jr. and sister Brenda that are with the Lord, and a wide circle of wonderful friends who felt more like siblings. Jean's warmth, humor, and unfailing ability to listen without judgment will be missed more than words can say. But her stories, recipes, and the memory of her contagious laugh will remain with all of us forever. A celebration of her life will be held at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church located at 501 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte NC,28204 on Saturday August 16 at 11:00 am. Guests are invited to bring a favorite JJ story to share. Jean's love of flowers are welcomed, and the family asks that donations be made to the York County Humane Society, https://humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org/ where Jean spent countless hours volunteering.
