Virginia "Lynn" Efird, 76, of
Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.Born on December 24, 1948, in
Charlotte, NC, Lynn was the daughter of the late Brevard and Virginia Brookshire. She graduated from East Mecklenburg High School and went on to earn her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.Lynn dedicated much of her life to service, primarily through her church. She was a devoted volunteerserving as a wedding director, Bible study leader, hospice and bereavement volunteer, and active member of various women's groups. Her faith was central to her life; she was a longtime member of Providence United Methodist Church before joining St. Matthew Catholic Church later in life.Lynn married the love of her life, George Efird, Jr., on June 12, 1971. Together they built a loving family. She is survived by her husband George; her son Scott Efird and his wife Alison; and her cherished grandchildren, Tate, Madeline, and Eliza Jane. She also leaves behind her sister Ann Brookshire (Joe Grier) and Jim Brookshire (Linda Peterson) and her nieces and nephews.. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Judy, and her beloved son David.Lynn had a special way of making people feel cared for. She was quick to lend a hand, cook a comforting meal, or simply show up when someone needed her. Her warmth, kindness, and generosity touched many. She never met a stranger and always made a friend everywhere she went. She especially loved spending time with her friends from church and cherished traveling with her family. Lynn always made time for her grandchildren and was an important part of their lives whether cheering from the sidelines or spending time together over the weekends. Among her favorite memories were trips to England and Paris with her son David and a family vacation to Turks and Caicos with Scott and his family.She was also a devoted pet owner to her two dogs, Charlie and Sadie, who brought her much joy.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the [David Efird Masters Scholarship]https://www.york.ac.uk/philosophy/study/funding/david-efird-masters-scholarship/ at the University of York, a cause close to her heart. Lynn will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.Burial will be private for immediate family only.
