Jean M. Kaeli, 82, of Atlantic Highlands, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025.
Born Jean Tully in Pittsfield, MA, she graduated with a degree in education from The Elms. Jean taught third grade before meeting and marrying her husband, Frederick J. Kaeli, in April 1966.
Throughout her life, Jean supported her community in various ways. As President of the board of the Women's Center of Monmouth County, Inc. (now 180 Turning Lives Around), she oversaw the successful purchase and renovation of the first domestic violence emergency shelter in the county. Along with the board, she helped expand the Center's outpatient counseling services and increased support for individuals navigating the court system.
Jean was also drawn to the Affordable Housing Alliance, where she served as President for several years and continued as a long-term board member. Under her leadership, the Alliance successfully raised awareness and funds to develop housing options for those with low incomes in Monmouth County.
An active person, Jean enjoyed her time at Rumson Country Club, where she could often be found on the golf course or launching her kayak into the Shrewsbury River. She also nurtured her creative side through various art projects. Jean and Fred loved to travel, visiting over 30 countries together and she never turned down an opportunity to go on a road trip with her children.
Jean is survived by her husband Fred; her son David Kaeli; her daughters Kate Kaeli and Elizabeth Toland (Steve); and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Gertrude Tully; her brother Michael J. Tully; and her sister Sheila Tully.
Arrangements are private and under the direction of Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to 180 Turning Lives Around (https://180nj.org/give-help/donate/).

Dear Jean's family, I had the privilege of serving at The Women's Center, later 180 Turning Lives Around, with Jean during our first ever capital campaign to build a shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children in Monmouth County. Jean embodied grace and compassion. She was the Board President during a pivotal time at the organization, and you could say she led with an iron fist in a velvet glove! We very much appreciated her leadership then, and ongoing support of our organization over these many years. We send you, Fred, her children and grandchildren our deepest condolences on this terrible loss and hope you are comforted by many fond memories.
Sincerely, Anna Diaz-White, former Executive Director
