Beloved daughter of the late Raymond "Ray" Mertens and Rosemary (née Irvin g) Mertens, loving sister of Rosemary (the late Richard) Duda of Mt. Prospect, IL, Diana Mertens of Naperville, Raymond (the late Susan) Mertens of Antioch, IL and John (the late Angela) Mertens of Pleasant Prairie, WI, adored aunt of Julie (Michael) Ramsden, Michael Duda, Patricia Duda; Raymond, Luke (Nicole), Dustin and Rachel Mertens, great-aunt and great-great aunt of many.
Jean grew up in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood and attended St. Robert Bellarmine Grammar School and Notre Dame High School for Girls. She worked as a bookkeeper and then as a CPA after earning her MBA from DePaul University.
She was a long-term member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville where she was active in both the Liturgy of the Word and the Transitional Housing Ministries.
Memorial visitation will be 9:00-10:00 AM, Friday, October 10, 2025, at St. Patrick's Residence 1400 Brookdale Rd, Naperville, IL 60563 with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick's Chapel.
