Jean Truehart Parker, the beloved daughter of the late Alfonsa Sample and Carrie Bowser Ames, was born on June 17, 1937 in Accomack County, Virginia. God called her home on August 9, 2025 in Onley, Virginia.
Jean attended the public schools of Accomack County. As a youth, she confessed her faith in God and became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Boston, Virginia. She was the president of the Senior Usher Board for over 40 years. Jean also trained Junior Ushers. She was a woman of faith, after God's own heart.
On August 4, 1952, she married her sweetheart, Clinton Rudolph Parker, and this union was blessed with six children. Jean was a devoted, loving, and caring wife, mother, sister, and true friend to all that knew her. Jean was a woman of wisdom and inspiration. She was very proud of all her children's accomplishments.
Jean worked at Perdue Farms and other factories. She was a homecare aide, agricultural worker, and she also made and sold items. One thing Jean truly cherished was her flowers. Jean grew and planted beautiful flowers. She enjoyed working out in her yard, growing flowers of all different types and of many beautiful colors. She nurtured her flowers as she did people.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clinton R. Parker who went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2004; her parents, Carrie Ames and Alfonsa Sample; her brothers, James Lee Smith and Oliver Young; as well as her sister, Jeanette Johnson.
Left to cherish beautiful memories are her three sons, Clinton (Jacquelin) Parker Sr., Michael (Annalesa) Parker, and James (Isabelle) Parker; three daughters, Barbara (Kym) Foster, Cynthia (Melvin "Tim") Wallop, and Sharon (James Jr.) Sample; sisters, Margaret Twyford and Marty Baxter; brother, Alfonsa (Agatha) Sample; brothers-in-law, Harold Parker and Calvin Parker; sister in-law, Evetta Fos-ter; twenty-seven grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; self-adopted daughters, Regina Byrd Addison and Lafaris Twyford; special friend, Sarah Lee Watson, who was like a sister to her; special cousins, Lillie "Dee" Garrett and Geneva Turner; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jean left a grand legacy. We know that memory is a gift from God that will keep "Jean" in our hearts forever. Lord, we thank You for the gift of her life, for the love she poured into her family, and for the faith she lived each day. We praise You for the blessed hope that she and her beloved husband are now in Your holy presence, reunited in glory, where there is no more sorrow, only everlasting joy. May her light continue to shine through the lives she touched until we meet again in Your eternal kingdom. Amen.
