Jean A. Sander

Jean A. Sander, age 90 of Highland, IL, died Monday, June 10, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
She was born on Thursday, July 6, 1933, in London, England, the daughter of Albert and Lilian (nee Morse) Tobin.
On Saturday, February 5, 1955, she married Orville A. Sander at Salem E & R Church, Alhambra, IL, who passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016.
She was a member of First Congregational Church, Highland, IL; Dorcas Fellowship at First Congregational Church; Highland Women's Club; former member of the Salem United Church of Christ, Alhambra, IL; former Joy Singers; and Highland and Alhambra Homemakers.
Jean was born in London, England and as a youth experienced the "Blitzkrieg" during WW II. As a young 19 year-old, she came to the United States aboard the USS United States. She reconnected with a "Pen Pal " from grade school. They eventually met and ultimately married in Alhambra, IL in 1955. She and Orville lived in Alhambra, IL for many years. They moved to Highland in 1999. Jean was active in the community with the JOY Singers, the church choir and active in the Women's Club. She initiated the "Trivia Night Fund Raiser" for the Club. Jean collected tea pots and toothpick holders as well as Charles Dicken's Christmas Villages. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, knitting and crocheting and doing Tole painting.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at First Congregational Church in Highland, IL.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at First Congregational Church in Highland, IL.
Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made to Capital Campaign at First Congregational Church.
