Jean Wix Obituary

Thelma Jean Wix, beloved matriarch and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, just days shy of her 90th birthday. Born on December 9, 1935, Jean's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and a commitment to her community.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Elton O. (Pete) Wix; parents, James T. Allred and Nora Ann Pryor Allred; brother, Lloyd Allred; and great-granddaughter Emma Heitman.

Jean is survived by her children, Larry Wix (Debbie), Patricia Smith (David), Glenda Johnson (Ray), and Elton O. Wix Jr. (Jamie); grandchildren, Holly Wix (Tommy), Heather Young (Jonathan), Hailey Stephenson (Brandon), Misty Heitman (Michael), Keely Gilbert (Bobby), Garrett Smith, Brandon Bell (Christy), Justin Bell (Jessica), John Bell (Julia), Dani True (Austin), and Karmon Wix Clayborne; 22 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Helen Crabtree and Janice Revis.

Jean attended York Institute in Jamestown TN and later in life earned her GED, along with her husband, to whom she married on August 7, 1954. It was this very spirit that propelled her to own and operate Pegram Day Care out of her home for many years, where she lovingly nurtured countless children in the Pegram area. Those who were fortunate enough to be in her care remember her as a nurturing force, a second mother, and a guiding light. Jean's home was a sanctuary of joy, filled with the sounds of laughter and the happy chatter of children as they made lasting memories with her.

Beyond her devoted work as a caregiver, Jean lived life to the fullest. She had a passion for fishing, where she found peace amid nature. She was an avid bowler and embraced the thrill of bowling, often sharing spirited moments of friendly competition with family and friends. Jean had a desire for travel, exploring new places and creating adventures that would fill her heart with joy.

Jean found happiness in spending time with her family and friends, forging deep connections that enriched her life and the lives of her family. Her warmth and genuine spirit drew people near, making her an irreplaceable part of the community.

Jean leaves behind a legacy of love that will echo through the hearts of all the lives she touched. Her generous spirit and kind heart will be deeply missed.

The family extends a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice of Dickson, TN, especially Stephanie, Maria, Kim, and Jeff, for all of the care and support you provided to Jean and her family during this difficult journey.

There will be a private service held for family at a later date. Services provided by Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Ark of Pegram, TN or the Alzheimer’s Association in Jean Wix’s honor.
