Jeanette Katzenberg Obituary
April 27, 1937 - November 18, 2024
GENOA CITY - Jeanette K. Katzenberg, 87, of Genoa City, Wis., passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024, in the comfort of her home. Daughter of the late Lester and Kathleen (Brand) Zastrow, Jeanette was born on April 27, 1937, in Chicago, Ill. On February 14, 1953, she was united in marriage with Robert Katzenberg in Pell Lake, Wis. She received a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a master's degree in education from UW-Racine.
Longtime resident of Genoa City, Jeanette was a committed, involved, and beloved member of her community. She taught at Brookwood School for 35 years, was on the Genoa City Library Board, was a member of the Garden Club, and was voted Genoa City's Citizen of the Year in 2005 by the Lion's Club. Her life was guided by her faith, and Jeanette was deeply engaged with her church. Faith First UCC, formerly known as First Congregational UCC, was blessed to have Jeanette as a Sunday school teacher, organist, choir director, and council member for many years.
Jeanette is survived by her children, Mark (Liane) Katzenberg, Brenda (Tom) Ruenz, and Dianne (Wally) Swanson; siblings, Lester (Barbara) Zastrow Jr., Kathleen (Dennis) Kelcourse, and Alan (Cindy) Zastrow; as well as eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In death, she is reunited with her husband, Bob; parents, Lester and Kathleen; son, Bradley Katzenberg; and great-grandson, Crew Robert Roth.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11 a.m. at First Faith UCC, 624 Park St., Genoa City, Wis., 53128. Memorials can be directed to Faith First UCC. I was in Mrs. Katzenburg's 4th grade class at Brookwood. I remember her telling me about her trip to Alaska....would have been 1981 or 1982. It was the first time I had ever heard of such a place. I am currently a resident of Anchorage, Alaska. RIP Mrs. Katzenburg.
