Jeanette "Jan" Waleske, age 90, of Willowbrook, passed away August 26, 2025. Loving mother of Kathy (Hal) Meyer, David (Nan) Waleske & Lisa (Dan) Foster. Devoted grandmother of Melissa (Elliott) Ritter, Madeline (Mike Swanson) Meyer & Matt (Krissy) Meyer; Nick Waleske; and Ryan, Andrew & Will Foster. Dear great-grandmother of Calvin & Leo Ritter, Oliver & Harrison Meyer; and Vincent Waleske. Fond aunt of Susan & Jane Brokis. Jeanette was preceded in death by partner, Bill Pierce; parents, Sam & Katherine Brokis; brother, Richard (late Dorothy) Brokis; and "sister-in-law", Jeanne Kmak.
Jan will be remembered by all for her frequent laughter and her quiet strength, her love of good food and great conversation and her regular attendance at multiple live music venues.
She started every day with coffee cake.
In her best days you would find her listening and singing to live music at Shanahan's; dining on her favorite ravioli at Il Vicinato's or splitting a burger at the Flame- always with a glass of Pinot Grigio in hand and surrounded by friends.
She loved a great joke and a fun sing-along. Her grandkids loved her occasional "swears".
But most of all we loved her presence at our kitchen tables.
Visitation 10:00am until time of Mass at 11:00am Friday, September 5th at St. Francis Xavier Church, 124 N. Spring Ave., La Grange. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Salvation Army. Arrangements entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home, Countryside at 708-352-6500 or HJfunerals.com.
