Our hearts are heavy as we share the death of Jeanne M. Shultz. Jeanne, 70, of Tecumseh, Mi. died peacefully On Wednesday afternoon, January 01, 2025 at Corewell Hospital in Dearborn with family beside her.
Jeanne was a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and friend known for her infectious laughter, kind heart, and unwavering support to those she loved. She was passionate about world travel, family history, and her real estate career. While undergoing stroke rehabilitation and chemotherapy for breast cancer, she developed respiratory and blood infections from which she never recovered.
Jeanne was born at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Detroit on October 27, 1954 to Ray and Helen Shultz (Towne). She grew up on Detroit's East side, attending school at St. David Elementary on East Outer Drive. As a young teenager her family moved to Port Hope, MI. where they lived in the Pointe Aux Barques lighthouse keepers' residence, and managed the adjacent County Park.
Attending Port Hope High School with her brother Bob and sister Marge, Jeanne served a semester as editor of the school newspaper, played basketball, and graduated Salutatorian with the class of 1972. She also worked as a tour guide at the Pioneer Huron City Museums from 1969 thru 1972. It was a job she enjoyed, as history was one of her many interests.
Throughout her life Jeanne experienced many different adventures. She spent a few years working for the Chuck Muer chain of restaurants, where She considered herself privileged to meet people from all walks of life. Her travels included trips to many domestic and foreign lands. She especially enjoyed the castles and historic locations in the U.K., and Europe.
Most recently Jeanne helped establish an endowed scholarship program for Nursing students at Schoolcraft College in Livonia MI.
Throughout her life Jeanne embraced new adventures while pursuing a successful career as a real estate agent in Marin County, California. One of her favorite adventures involved an interview with Doris Day, which occurred when Jeanne hosted the public radio show "EASY LIVING" in Monterey California. She said that She felt honored to spend time discussing Miss Day's animal charity as Jeanne, herself, was a staunch advocate of supporting and protecting all animals, especially dogs. Jeanne was also a strong supporter of encouraging literacy in children and adults, and would volunteer much of her time supporting neighborhood libraries.
