Richard McCreedy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chas. Verheyden, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Grosse Pointe on Aug. 26, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Richard Allen McCreedy, age 75, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025 in Detroit, Michigan. Rick was born on October 27, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to his parents Elmer and Winifred (nee: Deckard) McCreedy.

Rick loved technology in all its evolving forms. He shared his dad's love of radio, worked briefly in television production, and spent decades at Wayne State University in telecommunications. He was known for being a verbose storyteller with a sharp sense of humor, and in recent years became a cheese aficionado while working at DeVries in Eastern Market. He particularly enjoyed working on computers and open source software, the company of his lifelong menagerie of cats and dogs, and spending time with his family.

Rick's greatest treasures in his life were his wife and children. Rick is the loving husband to Beth, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage. He is the cherished father of Jen McCreedy and Shaun (Lacey) McCreedy. Rick was the oldest of three siblings. He is survived by his brother Ron and preceded in death by his sister Gayle.

A Celebration of Life for Rick will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at St. Clare of Montefalco Catholic Church, 1401 Whittier Rd., Grosse Pointe Park. There will be a rosary service at 9:30am followed by the memorial gathering at 10:00am. The service starts at 10:30am.
