We gather today to celebrate the life of Wayne Bernard Johnson, a cherished individual whose kindness and warmth touched the lives of many. Born on March 29, 1944, in Highland Park, Michigan, Wayne was a beacon of friendliness and thoughtfulness throughout his 81 years. He passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, due to heart failure, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Wayne, a proud Catholic, lived a life that exemplified the values of his faith: compassion, generosity, and a deep sense of community. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as watching classic movies and indulging in his passion for antique collecting. His love for these hobbies was only surpassed by the love he had for his family.

He was a devoted husband to his beloved late wife, Sharon Johnson, and a loving father to his surviving children. Wayne's family was his pride and joy, including his daughters Laurie Skotcher, Kathie Wiza, Kelly Rogers, Erin Schlueter, Meghan Johnson, and Courtney Smith, and his sons Mike Johnson and Jamie Johnson. He was a father-in-law to Lance Skotcher, Tim Wiza, Mike Rogers, Shaneka Johnson, Jody Johnson, Craig Jerkich, Ryan Eaton, Nicole Johnson, Kevin Smith, and the late Josh Schlueter. His many grandchildren and great grandchildren continue his rich legacy. His brother Dennis Johnson and sister-in-law Pat Johnson also survive him, carrying forward the family's rich heritage.

Wayne's life was marked by the joy of fatherhood, the sorrow of losing his son Chris and daughter Kerrie, as well as his parents, Wayne 'Bud' Johnson and Bernadine Ann 'Bernie' Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Walter and Lorraine Duminske, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandy and Martin Kubanek.

In his community, Wayne will be remembered for his volunteer work at various sports and racing events, where he shared his enthusiasm and spirit of service with fellow enthusiasts. His friendly demeanor made him a favorite among his peers, and his thoughtful nature ensured that he was always there to lend a helping hand.

Wayne's legacy is one of kindness and generosity. He was the kind of man who would go out of his way to help a neighbor or offer a word of encouragement to a friend in need. His presence was a comfort to those around him, and his influence will be felt for many years to come.

As we bid farewell to Wayne Bernard Johnson, we reflect on the immeasurable impact he had on his family, friends, and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his example of kindness and thoughtfulness will continue to inspire us all. Wayne's life was a testament to what it means to be a good person, and he will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A visitation for Wayne will take place on Thursday, August 21 from 12 noon until 4pm at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Park.
