Jeanne Marie Dixon White of St. George, KS went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 26, 2025. She was born March 1, 1923 in Newton, KS, and was the 4th of 12 children.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Gailen White of St. George, KS & her grandson, Lance Nelson of Katy, TX. Sisters who preceded her in death; Virginia Field of Manhattan, KS, June Foss of Hutchinson, KS, Mildred DeWitt of Nixa, MO, Donna Holmes of Ashland, OR, Dorothy Nossaman of Denver, CO, Charlyn Balabanis of Sun City, AR, Harriett Foss of South Hutchinson, KS & brother Richard Dixon of Hutchinson, KS.
Surviving family members include her daughter Jody Oakes of Midland, TX, Peggy Nelson of Mooresville, NC & Randy White of Colorado Springs, CO. Sisters Thelma Schmitt of Hutchinson, KS, Celia Boyea of Detroit, MI, & brother Bill Dixon of Wichita, KS. Jeanne was blessed with 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Partridge High School and attended Friends University on a full music scholarship. It was there where she met her future husband of 67 years, married on June 4, 1945.
After graduation she taught Elementary School in Abbyville, KS in a one room schoolhouse for children 1st – 4th grade for many years. During the war, while her medic husband was deployed overseas, she served her country delivering much needed airplane parts at Boeing. A gifted musician, she enjoyed singing in her church choir, playing the organ & directing the Black Jack 4-H Chorus for many years.
A long-standing member of the Congregational Church of Manhattan, for years she provided flowers for the church's sanctuary from her own beautiful garden. She was a current member of the United Methodist Church of Manhattan. Jeanne was devoted to her family & lived a fulfilling life of 102 years with grace, resiliency & dignity. She was beloved by her children & grandchildren and a blessing to all who knew her.
A memorial service will take place at 3:30 P.M. Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
Donations can be made in her honor to The Purple Power Animal Welfare Society in Manhattan (www.purple-paws.org).
