Dorothy Jean "Jeannie" Mayerhofer passed away peacefully in Lewisville, TX on November 28th, 2022. Just prior to her passing, she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren singing praises to the Lord, reading various Scriptures, and sharing wonderful memories of how she was a blessing to so many.
Jeannie was born November 23rd, 1936 near Chicago, IL to Walter and Dorothy Wainwright. As the oldest of five children, she was expected to help her mother with her siblings. Seeing and experiencing all the hard work of parenting, she vowed to have no children of her own.
However, God had other plans for her. At age 16 and too young to marry in Illinois, she eloped with her sweetheart Gunnar to Iowa and returned to her parent's home the same day so her parents would not find out. Nine months later, she had her first of eight children. In total, she was mother to 8 (a 9th child lost in miscarriage), grandmother to 35, great grandmother to 40 and great-great grandmother to 15.
Jeannie spoke very highly of her Aunt Loraine who was the first in her family to become a Christian. Aunt Loraine showed her in the Bible how her sins could be forgiven and she could go to Heaven. They read together the verse Isaiah 1:18, "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." On reading this verse, she said she realized that even her sins could be forgiven, and at age 15 she chose to follow Christ.
She spent 42 years raising children until her last son turned 18 in 1995. As adults, her children realized that from her first child at age 16 to her last at age 40, she raised each purposefully. She was a hard worker, intentional in her instruction, and always on the side of her children. She taught each to love God, work hard, not depend on hand-outs, and how to fold laundry properly. At 59 she enrolled in college, and four years later, earned her bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico. She will always be remembered for how much she sacrificed for her children, and how she shared her love of the Lord with her family.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Dorothy Wainwright, her brother Roy Wainwright, sisters Janice Burgess and Patsy Maples, her beautiful daughter Michele Connolly, and her precious grandsons David Edward Connolly and Tristan Alexander Mayerhofer.
