MCCORDSVILLE – Jeffrey "Jeff" Scott Phares, age 65, of McCordsville, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021. He was born in Greenfield on April 24, 1956 to Kenneth "Kenny" Phares and Wilma Dean (Adkins) Phares. He was a graduate of the Mt. Vernon High School's class of 1974 and attended Purdue University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau.
He was a proud Hancock County farmer for over 40 years. He loved farming with his father, family, and friends. Jeff was a very social man and life-long supporter of his community. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Community School Board, Hancock Memorial Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, Leadership Hancock County Board of Directors, where he was a graduate of its inaugural class, and the Hancock County Young Farmers. He was also a lifelong member of Mohawk United Methodist Church. Jeff loved sports and was an avid fan of Mt. Vernon Athletics. He was especially proud to be a part of the Mt. Vernon Girls' Basketball program during the 2012 runner-up & 2013 State championships. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, going to movies and out to eat. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and was proud of his perfect 300 bowling game.
Jeff is survived by his loving family. Denise Phares, James Phares, John (Kortni) Phares, Megan (Jeff) Addison, Willow, Walker, and Maeve, Susan (Rick) Edwards, Ethan (Rhnea) Edwards and Luke (Kristin) Edwards, Aunts Rosie Burk and Patty Adkins, his beloved cousins, brother and sister in laws, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenny and Wilma Phares.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Kerry O'Brien will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
Memorial contributions may be made by mail to the following, Mohawk United Methodist Church, 2045 W 400 N, Greenfield, IN 46140; Mt. Vernon High School Athletic Boosters, 8112 N 200 W, Fortville, IN 46040; Kenny & Wilma Phares Community Development Fund, 312 E. Main St., Greenfield, IN 46140 or envelopes will be available at the mortuary. Friends may share a memory or condolence at www.erleweinmortuary.com.
