Jeffery Dailey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers from Jan. 8 to Jan. 9, 2022.
Jeffery William Dailey, 56, of Lubbock, Texas, died suddenly on January 3, 2022. Memorial services for Jeff are being planned and details will be posted soon on this page where you are also invited to sign his virtual guestbook.

Born on February 8, 1965, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to William Vincent Dailey and Patricia Kilmer Dailey, Jeff was a 1983 alumnus of Mercersburg Academy and graduated from Penn State University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Production. After college he joined the Peace Corps, volunteering for two years in Botswana to help others in the agricultural sector. He was especially proud of that experience. Upon his return, he joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agriculture Research Service, serving first at the Livestock Behavior Research Unit in West Lafayette, Indiana, and then at the Livestock Issues Research Unit in Lubbock, Texas. Jeff earned his Master of Science in Animal Behavior from Texas Tech University in 1995. He was a key member of the Livestock Issues Research Unit, providing expertise in animal behavior, automated gathering of data about animals and facilities, and use of technology to numerous individuals throughout the United States and Canada. He was a founding member and coordinator of the Livestock Issues Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Jeff was a kindhearted person, always eager to help people personally and professionally. He enjoyed teaching students and collaborators, and initiated a bibliographic database for their use that currently contains nearly 48,000 peer-reviewed research papers. Jeff loved his friends and family deeply. He left the legacy of a life well-lived and will always be remembered as a kind and charitable person with a wry sense of humor. As an expression of Jeff's loving and generous spirit, he had decided that his organs should be donated so others may live.

Jeff's family is tremendously grateful to his co-workers for their love and friendship that enriched and blessed his daily life. They are particularly beholden to them for checking on Jeff and not leaving his side while he was in the hospital. The family has felt great solace in knowing that Jeff's life was filled and blessed with such caring people, and appreciates the support and assistance that has been given during this difficult time.

Jeff is survived by his mother, Patricia Kilmer Rogers, of Windsor, Maine; his bonus mother, Jeanette Pettner Dailey, of Penn Township, Pennsylvania; his brother, Michael Paul Dailey (Sharon), of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania; his sister, Debra Lynn Franklin (Kirk), of Wichita, Kansas; his brother, Alan Robert Dailey, of Acton, Massachusetts; his sister, Kim Lynn Dailey, of Gardiner, Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Vincent Dailey, of Penn Township, Pennsylvania.

Jeff was an incredible volunteer at Lubbock Meals on Wheels. He started at LMOW on February 14th, 2019. Since that day, he volunteered each Monday... unless he had to make a cattle feed run. He was always wearing pants and flip-flops, even when it was FREEZING! He would always joke when we chatted. We along with his clients on Route 44 will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

I was so sad to learn about the unexpected death of Jeff. I loved his sense of humor!!! Jeff was great to work with during my time as the Purchasing Agent at USDA-ARS. He always made sure I had the necessary and complete information on any purchases I needed to make for the Livestock Issues Research Unit. I got to see and visit with Jeff several times last year at Lifestyles water aerobic class. His class was right before mine...he always made me laugh!! I have no doubt his physical presence will be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing and working side by side with him. To his family, I will be praying for you to feel the peace and comfort that only God can give as you grieve the loss of Jeff. You must be so very proud of all his accomplishments and his life that was well lived.
