Joachim Weber, age 70, passed away peacefully in the morning of August 18th, 2025, at UMC Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Born on November 29th, 1954, in Braunschweig, Germany, to Barbara Klenk-Weber and Heinz Glaubitz, Joachim grew up in Hannover, Germany. After completing 18 months of compulsory service in the Bundeswehr, he earned his PhD inBiochemistry from the Medical University of Lübeck in 1990.Joachim moved to Rochester, NY, where he met the love of his life, Ina Urbatsch. Together, they welcomed two children, Daniel and Vanessa. In 2004, Joachim joined Texas Tech University as a professor and researcher in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. He was deeply passionate about his work and especially enjoyed teaching and mentoringstudents and sharing his knowledge of science.In his free time, Joachim was an avid bird watcher, model train collector, and national park enthusiast. He was also a staple at his children's academic and sporting events and performances. He was known for his booming voice, sharp sense of humor, and generosity. Joachim was also a big fan of the Buffalo Bills.He is survived by his wife, Ina; his two children, Daniel and Vanessa; and two sisters, Ulli and Katrin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UMC Cancer Center, where he received compassionate multidisciplinary care.An informal celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 28, from 3 to 6 pm at the Urbatsch-Weber Residence.
