READFIELD-Jeffery K. Padgett, 38, died on November 16, 2024, unexpectedly due to a blood clot in his lung at his home in Readfield, in the arms of his beloved wife Kellie.
He was born on September 24, 1986, in Portsmouth, VA, the son of the late James and Sandra Padgett Sr. Jeff grew up in Canaan and attended Skowhegan Area High School where he was voted "most friendly and most cheerful," and graduated in 2005. He played football, track and field, and wrestling during his high school career. He also played semi- professional football for a few years after graduation.
Jeff was accepted to the University of Maine at Augusta which he was proud of because he was the only child in his family to attend and graduate college. He received his degree from the University of Maine at Augusta in Applied Science, minoring in Biology, in May of 2013. Jeff met his beloved wife, Kellie, when they were in college in 2007 and they later married in 2015. They built their home together in 2017 and put down roots in Readfield with their beautiful dog Gracie.
Jeff worked in the education field for 11 years and ended his career working at Cony Middle and High School as a special education technician III. He had a natural ability in working with children with disabilities, mental health, and behavioral challenges. He was a role model and had a fun, loving, and playful personality with all his nephews and nieces. He was very active and present in their lives and enjoyed spending time with them. You would often catch him spending his days in the summer swimming in his pool with all of them.
Jeff's laugh, smile, and sense of humor was contagious as he had a larger than life personality. He emphasized caring for others and impacted many people, making a lasting impression on many lives. He had a genuine heart and took care of the people, making them feel safe and loved. Valuing empathy, authenticity, respect, and loyalty, he demonstrated these traits to everyone who he came in contact with during his life. He was many things to many people: husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and dear friend.
Jeff enjoyed being outside and would often spend his time fishing, gardening, hunting, swimming, grilling, and igniting big bonfires. He was an avid pyrotechnic and you would often see him setting off fireworks for celebrations with family members. He had a child-like spirit that would often show up when he was riding a lawn mower, 4-wheeler, snowmobile, and tractor. In the summer, Jeff and Kellie would often take frequent trips to the ocean to explore new lighthouses and forts they had never seen. They loved taking road trips and spent lots of vacations in New Hampshire over the years. They enjoyed spending time together and you would often see them having yard sales or going to multiple yard sales throughout the entire summer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kellie; sister, Carroll Delbaugh and her son Michael "Jake" Reynolds; brother, James Padgett and wife Melissa; sister, Ella Padgett and companion Tim O'Neil, and their son Jacoby Padgett; nephew, Cooper Padgett; Uncle and Aunt, Harold "Wayne" Ray and Rebecca Baker; his father and mother in law, Gerald and Terri Mason; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Katie and Billy Berube and their children, Jordan and Haley; Kasie and Matthew Carey and their children, Ava and Cameron, and Nathan and JoAnn Mason and their children, Ethan and Wyatt; and many other cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers: Edmond and Aaron.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, with his wife, Kellie, officiating. A gathering will follow at the Elks Lodge, Middle Street in Pittsfield. All are welcome.
