Jeffrey Fleming Benoit, 70, of Mount Clemens, MI passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024. He was born on May 31, 1953 in Mount Clemens, MI to the late James Francis and Dolores Mae (Fleming) Benoit. He married Annette Marie DuBay on November 22, 1974 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Clinton Township, MI. The couple would have celebrated their 50th Anniversary this year.
Jeffrey is survived by his wife, Annette; son, Jonathon, and daughter, Faith. Also surviving are his brothers Michael and Peter Benoit. He is predeceased by his parents; sons James Benjamin Benoit and Jeffrey Fleming Benoit, Jr.
Jeffrey graduated from Mount Clemens High School in 1971 and went on to be a dispatcher for the Clinton Township Police Department. After attending the police academy, Jeffrey became the youngest police officer to be hired at the Mount Clemens Police Department on January 28, 1974. He served over 25 years with dignity and honor accumulating numerous awards and accommodations from the city, state, and the Fraternal Order of Police and other organizations. Jeffrey retired from the MCPD on August 17, 1999.
Jeffrey was a lifelong Mount Clemens resident. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Clinton Township and later of St. Louis Catholic Church in Clinton Township. Jeffrey was a member and past President of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also a member of the Juggle Up Club where he loved working in the kitchen and served as a past President. In his free time, Jeffrey enjoyed camping, woodworking, hunting, cooking, playing and watching baseball and hockey. He coached his son's Little League team for several years. From a young age, Jeffrey enjoyed working at his uncle Art Krause's Christmas Tree Farm in Applegate, MI. From his uncle, Jeffrey developed a passion for Christmas trees and his love for beagles, every one of which he named Queenie. Jeffrey possessed vast knowledge of nature and animals and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and passion with his children.
Jeffrey will be dearly missed by many. The family honors the memory of Jeffrey and invites you to a visitation on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Scripture Service at 6:30 pm at Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Directors, 8459 Hall Road (3 blks E. of Van Dyke), Utica, 48317. Jeffrey will lie in state on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at St. Louis Catholic Church, 24415 Crocker Blvd., Clinton Township, 48036. Jeffrey will be laid to rest at Clinton Grove Cemetery, 21189 Cass Ave., Clinton Township, 48036. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, 1820 Mount Elliot St., Detroit, MI 48207; Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA 23453; or Children's Hospital of Michigan Neurology Department, 3011 West Grand Boulevard, Suite 218, Detroit, MI 48202.
