Paul Sawyer Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Paul Whitney Sawyer, age 60, of Clinton Township Michigan, passed away on June 20, 2025. Paul was born on January 19, 1965 and was raised in Mt. Clemens Michigan. He spent much of his childhood at the beloved family cottage in Lexington Michigan. This place became his refuge in later life until the cottage was sold in 2014. The cottage matched his internal drive of the love of the outdoors; fishing, camping and riflery. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and playing pool with friends.
Paul attended Mt. Clemens High School, Cranbrook Schools, Albion College, The University of Michigan and The University of Detroit School of Law. He eventually earned a degree as a Juris Doctor and worked as an attorney at his father's law business in Mt. Clemens. In his later years, Paul assisted with legal work for several lawyers in the area. He also had an interest in real estate and earned a Real Estate Broker License.
Paul had an interest in reading and writing. He owned a large collection of books and various translations of the bible. He read the bible daily and spent countless hours documenting scripture in notebooks, journals and on post it notes. Paul was also a very social person and enjoyed talking with and sharing thoughts on life with others.
Over the years, people have expressed how "brilliant" Paul was with an extreme knowledge base. Although he appeared to have an excellent understanding of life around him, he struggled inwardly. He embraced all as his friends including the unique and colorful.
Family survivors include his sisters Elizabeth "Betsy" (Edmund) Mueller, Hillary (Tony) Morris, and brother Warren "Rocky" (Margie) Sawyer, and long-time companion Jamie John. He is also survived by his five children. He was preceded in death by his parents W. Whitney and Patricia Schott Sawyer.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Macomb County Alano Center, 20900 Mt. Clemens, MI 48036
Arrangements were entrusted to Grace Memorial.
