With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Jeffrey Rhodes Carper on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at the age of 74. He is survived by his loving family- wife Lisa, daughter Anne (Andy) Smith, and cherished granddaughters Leah and Caroline Smith. He is predeceased by his son, Daniel Jeffrey Carper, his parents, Helen and Lakin Carper, and his sister, Diane Thornton.
Jeff deeply loved West Virginia, his friends, and his family. A graduate of Marshall University, Jeff worked for Union Carbide, PPG, and Point Park University over the span 40 years. When not working, he could be found spending time with his friends, watching Pittsburgh sports teams, or tending his garden.
Jeff's greatest joy was being a devoted father to Anne and Daniel. His family cherishes memories of Outer Banks vacations, fly fishing in Montana, coaching youth soccer teams, patient and tedious homework help, and weekly post-preschool lunches with his granddaughters.
While we rejoice that his suffering has ended, we deeply miss Jeff's patient ear, terrible jokes, loving nature, and indomitable determination. With strong faith, he has finished his 35 year race against Parkinson's disease, and finished it well.
A public memorial service will be held at 10am on Saturday, May 31 at Bower Hill Community Church, 70 Moffett St., Pittsburgh, PA 15243.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jeff's memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation and planting a Jet Star tomato in your home garden.
