Jeffrey Richard Gray, 70, of South Plain eld, NJ, passed away on May 9, 2025.
Born on October 13, 1954, Jeff was the beloved son of Edward and Marjory Gray. He graduated Abraham Clark High School in 1972 and continued on to Trenton State College which he graduated in 1976.
A proud and dedicated public servant of the Roselle Police Department, he retired in 2018 as a lieutenant after 42 years of honorable service.
Affectionately known as "The Bear", Jeff was a man of quiet strength and erce loyalty. He was always appreciated for his warm bear hugs and his quick-witted, easygoing sense of humor. He had a deep love for coffee, Wildwood Crest, crossword puzzles, and the simple pleasures of everyday life. He was an avid fan of the Mets, Cowboys, and Rutgers Athletics. Most of all, he treasured his family, including his three children and his wife, Janice, who was his high school sweetheart and wife of 46 years. Their enduring love was the cornerstone of his life.
Jeff had an incredible gift for friendship, and over the years built a chosen family of close friends who stood by him through life's ups and downs. He was a steady presence, a trusted con dant, and the kind of man who always showed up when it mattered.
Jeff, who was preceded in death by his father, Edward, is survived by his wife, Janice; his son, Zack, along with his wife, Katie, and their two children, Charlie and Theo; his daughter, Jessie, and her husband, Jeremy; and his son, Andrew, with his wife, Cara, and their son, Luca. He is also survived by his mother, Marjory, his brother, Cory, and four nieces.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Jeff's life will be held on Thursday, May 15, from 4pm-8pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood, NJ.
In lieu of owers, donations may be made in his name to the Hackensack Meridian John Theurer Cancer Center.
