Jeffrey G. Haynes
Inlet
Jeffrey G. Haynes passed away peacefully, surrounded by immediate family, in his most favorite place: his home on 4th lake in
Inlet, NY, less than a week after he completed his last to-do list. Jeff was born in April 1954 to Letty E. And Arthur D. Haynes, originally of
Watertown, NY. Growing up, Arthur's career moved the family to various locations in Maine, Massachusetts and New York. No matter where they were living, they would spend summers on 4th lake in Inlet with extended family and friends, making it their home.
The family moved to Inlet permanently in 1972, just after Jeff graduated from high school. He enlisted in the Army as an MP, which was followed by time in the Army reserves and more travels throughout the United States and to Europe. No matter how far Jeff was from home, he invariably would bump into someone he knew from growing up in Inlet. He settled back as soon as he completed his service, and resumed bartending. Alongside, for nearly 20 years he also held a job as a liquor salesman which took him out from behind "his" bar to numerous other bars and restaurants throughout the western Adirondacks and into the Tug Hill Plateau. He spent his commuting time listening to his oldies radio station and "The Rest of the Story" by Paul Harvey in between periodic stops at his various accounts to check inventories and share stories, further expanding his network of life long friends. As a bartender, he worked at Daiker's in his teenage years into his early twenties, then Eckerson's Restaurant from the 1980's - 1990's, and then moved onto the Seventh Lake House from the early 2000's through to 2024 when he wound down his career with "guest" appearances. As Jeff wound down with bartending, he continued to keep busy with construction projects, sometimes working alongside contracting friends and sometimes doing work on his own for close friends.
Jeff was a great card player which earned him a position as a driver during his time with the Army. He also earned his pilot license, and was a phenomenal boat driver and storyteller. If you were lucky enough, Jeff may have given you a personal tour of the lake by boat, or taught and towed you water skiing. Jeff was well known everywhere he went, around the lake and well beyond. Patrons would intentionally travel to "his" bar just to see him. His kindhearted, welcoming, funny, and positive spirit was cherished by so many. He really was everybody's friend.
Jeff is pre-deceased by his beloved mother and father, and wife Lee Haynes, lifelong friend Linda Bartlett, and numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
He is survived by his Aunt Eleanor Wabnitz who is 101, oldest brother Arthur Haynes III and wife Barbara; twin sister Cynthia Rose and husband Nick Rose; youngest brother Russell Haynes and wife, Deborah; His three cherished daughters Kitty Bartlett and husband Lars Jacobsen; Margaret Bartlett and partner Jason Morden; Elisha Bartlett and husband Andrew Lerner; 6 nieces,1 nephew, and two grandchildren.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to the many people and teams who provided support to Jeff while he underwent his cancer treatments through the years, and who provided help and support to his care giver, Margaret Bartlett, in completing his final to-do list, and end of life care.
A heartfelt thanks goes to the VA Clinic in Syracuse- Deb Vincent and her oncologist team which provided Jeff a quality of life for an extra 10 years+, and Dr. Kennedy and the palliative care team for providing as much comfort as possible. We are equally grateful to High Peaks Hospice's Mel Duerr and team for turning Jeff's final wishes into a reality, and to their amazing intuition. Finally, a great appreciation also goes to Margaret's partner, Jason Morden, whose unconditional support went beyond measure. We are forever grateful for the professionalism, knowledge, and compassion of these teams, and the additional love and support from all others.
A memorial service will be held in the spring, at a later date to be announced. Arrangements are with Dimbleby Funeral Homes, Inc., 128 Fern Ave., Old Forge.
