Jeffrey Ozimek ObituaryJeffrey Ozimek, of Eatontown, NJ, passed away recently at the age of 75. A devoted husband, accomplished engineer, and passionate space enthusiast, Jeff lived a life marked by curiosity, service, and dedication to both his country and his loved ones.
Born in Bethlehem, PA, Jeff earned a degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University in his hometown and later completed a master's degree at Fairleigh Dickinson University. His education laid the foundation for a distinguished career that combined technical expertise and national service.
During his career as an engineer for the US government, Jeff was extremely proud to lead the development of tactical satellite communications equipment for military applications. His work played a vital role in advancing secure communications technology for the Army. The Army successfully deployed his equipment in operations such as Desert Storm. He served as the assistant to the Commanding General of Fort Monmouth, advising on satellite communication issues – an assignment that reflected both his deep knowledge and trusted leadership. Jeff enjoyed mentoring young engineers and his work ethic motto was work hard, play hard. He reminded other Government engineers that they had two customers – the soldier and the taxpayer. A veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, Jeff carried his sense of duty beyond active service into every aspect of his professional life. His intelligence and meticulous attention to detail were hallmarks of both his military and civilian careers.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jeff was known for his boundless enthusiasm for all things related to space exploration. He found joy in building model rockets and intricate LEGO creations, often inspired by space themes. He was fortunate to attend several rocket launches from Kennedy Space Center and even met some of his hero astronauts. His telescope was a frequent companion as he gazed with wonder and scientific curiosity.
Jeff also had a lifelong love of all things Disney – a passion that reflected his joyful spirit and appreciation for imagination. He enjoyed many years playing softball with his colleagues and friends at Ft. Monmouth. He supported the community by volunteering to help Santa distribute gifts to the neighborhood on the fire truck. And then there was his love of anything chocolate.
Jeff also gave back to the community by leading and participating in cancer support groups. He was always available to offer guidance and comfort to those going through similar difficult times. He was sincerely appreciative of the expertise and kindness of the many medical professionals he encountered during his long illness.
He is survived by his wife Anne of 53 years; sister-in-law Debbie; nephew, Jonathan and wife Jennifer; niece Dyana and husband Frank; great-nephews Tyler and Jacob, and great-niece Allyson. He was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth, father John, and brother John Jr.
May Jeff Ozimek's memory be a source of comfort to those who knew him and an inspiration to all who value knowledge, service and the wonders of the universe and life. Our loved one leaves behind a legacy of courage, kindness, and unwavering faith in the goodness of others and the vow to never give up. For condolences please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
