Joseph E Cuneo ObituaryBelvidere
Joseph E. Cuneo (Joe), age 81 of Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully in Easton, PA, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hoboken, he was raised and graduated from high school in Lyndhurst. Joe attended Fairleigh Dickenson University in Teaneck. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was in the division of communications while stationed in Korea. Joseph was introduced by letter to his future wife, made possible by mutual friends. When he returned stateside, Joe and Amy continued to date and fell in love. They were married September 21st, 1968 at Our Lady of Victories RC Church, in Sayreville. The couple lived briefly in Elizabeth, owned their first home in Kenilworth, and settled in Sayreville, where they raised their two sons. After being a resident of Sayreville for 17 years, they decided to build a new home in Frenchtown, where they lived for 11 years. After Frenchtown, they purchased a house in Belvidere, and have been residing there for the last 17 years.
While working for United Van Lines, Joe attended and graduated from Devry Institute for Auto Mechanics. He always enjoyed working on cars and was in that field for a short time. Hearing of an opening at ER Squibb and Sons (now Bristol Meyers Squibb), through his wife Amy who was working there, he applied and was hired. Joe started as a janitor, and worked himself up through the ranks, including being a machinist. Through ER Squibb he got his diploma for Veterinary Science.
Joe loved his sports and played both baseball and basketball in high school. He was into athletics and fitness his whole life and kept a dedicated workout regimen up into his final years. Joe enjoyed the simpler things in life like watching a ballgame, having a tasty beer, or having some good food. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and sons to different states and places. Joe was an avid New York sports fan! He loved cheering on the NY Yankees, the NY Giants, the NY Knickerbockers, and the NY Rangers. Joe also enjoyed working around the house and yard. He loved dancing, and even though he wasn't the greatest at it, the music would always move him. Joe loved working with his hands and was always willing to lend a hand. He became an umpire for baseball and softball and played in a softball league when he worked at BMS. Joe was a communicant of Our Lady of Victories of Sayreville, as well as Our Lady of Victories in Baptistown. He is currently a third-degree knight of OLV Frenchtown, and a former member of the Sayreville American Legion Post 211
Joseph is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Christina Cuneo, his sister-in-law Joyce Cuneo, his brothers-in-law Richard and David Luecke, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Florence and Virgil Luecke, and his nephew Gerald Luecke.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 57 years, the former Amelia "Amy" Luecke, his cherished sons Christopher Joseph Cuneo and Gregory Thomas Cuneo, his brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Judy Cuneo, his sisters-in-law Cynthia Pope and Sheila Luecke, his nieces and nephews Chrisanne Trillo, his Godson Nicholas Pope, Richard Luecke, Sheila Daley, Daniel Luecke, Douglas Luecke, his great-nieces and great- nephews Samantha, A.J., Alicia, and Richard, and many other loving family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 9:45 am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin, with a 10:30 am Mass at Our Lady of Victories RC Church in Sayreville. A burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery in Parlin.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's name may be made to the Sayreville American Legion Post 211 at 240 MacArthur Ave. Sayreville, NJ 08872. Joe always knew the importance of giving blood and did so frequently with American Red Cross. Please consider doing so, as well, as it meant a great deal to him and his family.
