On December 20, 2022, Jeffrey Ryan joined our Heavenly Father at the age of 47. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend to many. Jeff was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, on February 07, 1975. He is survived by his parents, James and Denise (Conway) Ryan; his brothers, James Ryan Jr. (Gwen) and Thomas Ryan (Kelly); his beloved wife of 19 years, Veronica; their three sons, Colin, Nate and Finn; and nieces and nephews. Nothing was more important to Jeff than his family. Jeff is preceded in death by his daughter, Cameron Maria Ryan.
Jeff was a graduate of the University of Delaware. He began his federal career in 1998 at the Laredo North Station in Laredo, Texas, as a U.S. Border Patrol Agent. In 2003, he accepted a position as a Special Agent with the legacy United States Customs Service (now Homeland Security Investigations (HSI)) in Laredo where he met Veronica, the love of his life, on St. Patrick's Day.
Jeff served our country with "Honor, Service, and Integrity." During his HSI career, he transferred from Laredo to Baltimore, Maryland, as a supervisory special agent and spent three years in the Seaport/Airport group. He exemplified true leadership in several different roles at Headquarters and in the field. He served as the Acting Assistant Deputy Associate Director (ADAD) of Domestic Operations in Headquarters in Washington D.C. He served as the primary advocate for the domestic offices at the headquarters level and had direct supervision of 3 Operations Chiefs, a DHS Liaison and 15 Operations Managers. Before his ADAD assignment, Jeff was the Operations Chief for the Southwest Region within Domestic Operations. He was currently the Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC), HSI San Antonio, Texas, where he was responsible for managing four investigative groups. Jeff had over 24 years of law enforcement experience.
Jeff attended Westfield High School in New Jersey where he played lacrosse and first developed his love of the sport. This love was passed on to his boys. Jeff was an integral part in building the Boerne Lacrosse program. For the last ten years, he passionately brought awareness to the sport. Jeff's infectious enthusiasm as an admired coach inspired the community to love the sport as much as he did. Jeff worked tirelessly to gain recognition for lacrosse to become a club sport. Earlier this week, lacrosse was recognized as an officially sponsored club sport at Champion High School.
Jeff was the consummate professional, humble and selfless. He always put others before himself. Jeff was respected for his steady and even-keeled nature. He touched the hearts of many and was beloved as a coworker, supervisor, mentor, coach and friend.
