Jeffrey Alan "Jeff" Unger

Jeffrey "Jeff" Alan Unger, age 63, of Mustang, passed away unexpectedly on April 11, 2025. He was born in Lansing, Michigan, on March 13, 1962, to John Richard Gilmartin and Betty Joan Murray. Jeff's mother later married Ronald Edgar Unger and Ronald legally adopted Jeff. In the early 70's, Betty moved to Arizona and later married Dean Schwartz, Jeff's stepfather.
Jeff briefly served in the US Marine Corps. He worked in many jobs as a young man (he once had 16 jobs in a 6-month period), but from an early age he always had an interest in truck driving. After going to truck driving school, Jeff began a lifelong career in trucking and working as a mechanic. After moving to Mustang, OK, in 2008 to be closer to his wife's family, Jeff and Val started J&V Trucking in 2010. Jeff was very proud of this business.
Jeff worked hard and played hard. He worked every chance he could get, but he was also a man who enjoyed hobbies. He loved to shoot pool with his friends, play golf, bowl, fish, ride motorcy-cles, and drive his RZR side by side. He also had a soft spot for his dogs. His greatest joy though was spending time with his granddaughter.
Jeff is preceded in death by his mother Betty Schwartz and stepfather Dean, adopted father Ronald Unger, and biological father, John Gilmartin, as well as his three dogs, Skeeter, Sugarfoot and Tip-py.
He is survived by his step-daughter, Amy Shannon; step-son Andy Shannon; granddaughter Keira Whitworth; brother Greg Unger and wife Sharon; step-brothers Eddie Schwartz and wife Mariana, David Schwartz and wife Sharon, Douglas Schwartz and wife Andrea; his ex-wife Valerie Unger; and many friends and family.
A memorial service is being held on Wednesday, April 23rd, at 2pm at McNeil's Funeral Service.
