Jenaro "Jerry" Declet 80 of Clifton died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday January 8, 2025. Born in the Bronx, NY to Jenaro & Gladys (Arroyo) Declet, he moved to Clifton at age 14.
Jerry is a U.S. Air Force veteran who served as a police detective in the City of Clifton for 27 years prior to his retirement in 1995. He was awarded the Outstanding Policeman's Award in 1976.
Jerry is survived by his wife and love of his life of 56 years, Jane (Lewis), by two sons; Jerry & wife Amanda (Villoresi) of Wayne, and Jason & wife Elizabeth (Aguinaga) of Clifton, by five grandchildren; Carlie, Samantha, Jayden, Juliet, & Jerry Jr., by two brothers; Daniel of Toms River and David & wife Jean of Pawleys Island, SC, and by a sister Gladys Hernandez & husband Richard of Kingston, PA, as well as In-Laws Henry & Carolyn Lewis of VA, Kenneth Lewis of CA and Lucille Hanlon of FL. He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Member of Preakness Reformed Church of Wayne, led by Pastor Eric Nichols and Associate Pastor Kim Pavlovich. Former member of United Reformed Church of Clifton where he served as Deacon, Property Chair and Choir member.
An avid fan of the New York Yankees, New York Rangers and New York Giants.
He led by example instilling the importance of love, faith, honesty, loyalty, family and strong work ethic. We will forever miss his gracious nature, the mischievous smile, merciless jokes, loving hugs, overly generous soul and his calming demeanor in the greatest of storms. An anchor for all, the world is suddenly a lot less interesting without him in it.
Funeral services will held 11AM Tuesday at the Allwood Funeral Home followed by burial at Cresthaven Memorial Park. Visiting hours are Monday 4-8PM.
