Jerelyn Toula Zepnick (nee Stathas) passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18th, 2025.
Jeri was extremely proud of her Greek heritage, her father immigrated to the United States from Greece just over 100 years ago. She was a cheerleader (photo above) and graduated from South Division High School.
She is preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Elsie Stathas, husband Gordon, her daughter Jamie, her brother Andy Stathas Jr. and many friends and extended family. Loving Sister of Michael Preston (Pam), Proud and Caring Mother of Jodi Szklarski (Steven), her son Josh Zepnick, her granddaughter Jessica Szklarski and very special friend Linda (Tom) DeArteaga (nee Frenzel).
Jerelyn was a natural born teacher with a generous heart and steadfast commitment to doing the right thing. She was a tireless advocate for her special needs daughter Jamie and later after Jamie’s tragic death, Jeri was a fierce champion for tougher laws on drunk driving. Jeri worked early in life at Pabst Brewing Company as a secretary in the Engineering department. Later, she returned to the workforce as a special assistant to the Principal at Golda Meir Elementary School. Jeri also taught Sunday School for many years at Zion UCC.
She loved people, politics, food and fellowship, and sharing a good laugh. She was an emotional support for the entire family and many others who were like family and needed a little extra help to get through life’s ups and downs.
Everyone who met Jeri would notice her never ending smile, her positive attitude about life and toward others, and her ability to rebound from very difficult situations including these last five years of challenging health issues.
Gratitude to the wonderful hard-working staff at St. Luke’s Hospital, Jewish Home, Ruth House, Eden Vista Greendale, and especially VITAS Hospice caregivers who helped take care of Mom and keep her safe and comfortable.
Visitation begins at 10:30am with Service at 12:00 NOON on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Hales Corners - see maxsass.com for details.
