Jeremy Adam Walkenhorst, 40, of St. Peters, MO, formerly of Troy, passed away surrounded by those who loved him.
Jeremy was a beloved figure in his community - a man whose joy, kindness, and unwavering faith left an imprint on everyone he met. He spent 18 dedicated years working at Kroger in Troy, where he was more than just an employee - he was a shining light. Jeremy took immense pride in his work. He greeted customers with genuine warmth, knew many by name, and always
had a smile or joke ready. His coworkers became a second family, and his time at Kroger gave him a strong sense of purpose and belonging. Jeremy loved going to work each day and was known to talk about his job with enthusiasm and gratitude.
Beyond work, Jeremy was once actively involved in the Lincoln County Roadrunners with Special Olympics Missouri, where he found not only an outlet for his competitive spirit but a place where friendships and community thrived. Jeremy participated in basketball, golf, softball, and bowling - and he loved every minute of it. Through these experiences, he built lasting bonds and experienced the joy of being part of a team. His Roadrunners family held a special place in his heart and reflected his belief that everyone deserves a place to belong.
Jeremy's heart was just as full when it came to his family. He was the proud and loving son of Karen Walkenhorst and the treasured brother of Jenni and Jeff. But perhaps his favorite role in life was being "Uncle Jeremy." He absolutely adored his niece, nephews, and great-niece - Allie, Evan, Owen, William, Brendan, and little Ellie. Jeremy wasn't just present in their lives - he was involved. He showed up to their sporting events and school performances; he was their biggest fan and greatest encourager. He constantly bragged about them and their latest accomplishments. To his family, Jeremy was a source of unconditional love, laughter, and strength.
Jeremy's love for Jesus was the foundation of everything he did. His faith wasn't just something he talked about - it was something he lived. Jeremy was a proud and active member of NorthRoad Church, where he served as a greeter with joy and sincerity. He looked forward to Sundays, not just for worship, but for connection. He cherished the friendships he made through church - people who embraced him, supported him, and truly became part of his extended family. Jeremy's trust in God was unshakable, and he often spoke about how thankful he was for the blessings in his life. His heart for others reflected the love of Christ in a way that was deeply moving to those who knew him.
Jeremy also found a sense of home and happiness at Willows Way in St. Peters, where he moved later in life. There, he formed a close bond with his roommate Justin, who became a close friend. At Willows Way's day program, Jeremy enjoyed spreading joy through karaoke, delivering flowers to local nursing homes, and bowling. Jeremy loved unconditionally, laughed easily, and lived with a joyful spirit that was impossible to ignore. His life was a testament to what it means to love God and love others. We were always encouraged by his tenacity and willingness to face whatever life threw at him. Though his absence leaves an incredible void, his legacy of faith, family, and love will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him. We are better people and Christians for knowing him.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Karen Walkenhorst; his siblings, Jenni (Doug) Pruitt and Jeff (Kelly) Walkenhorst; his beloved niece and nephews, Allie (Dalton) Fisher, Evan and Owen Pruitt, and William and Brendan Walkenhorst; and his precious great-niece Ellie Fisher.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Walkenhorst, and his grandparents.
Jeremy will be missed deeply but remembered joyfully - a true servant's heart who left this world better than he found it.
