Jerome Curtis Fibelstad died peacefully at home on January 28, 2024. He was born in Lake Mills, Iowa, on September 30, 1939, to Vernon and Margaret Fibelstad. Raised in Joice, Iowa, he graduated from Joice High School in 1957 and went to work in the oil fields in North Dakota for the summer. He then attended Gale Institute in Minneapolis, MN for 6 months and went to work for Great Northern Railroad based in depots in Libby, Kalispell, East Glacier and Browning, MT before attending Concordia College in both Portland, OR and Seward, NE where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Math Education. He then went on to get his master's degree at Notre Dame. He spent 31 years teaching in 3 schools. Martin Luther High School in Queens, New York, Bethlehem Lutheran School in Kennewick, WA, and finished his teaching career at Pleasant Hill High School in Pleasant Hill, OR, where he retired in 1998. He went on to work for OEA Choice Trust for 7 years, then retired for good in 2005. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eugene, where he held several offices over the 47 years as a member. He had 2 children with his first wife, Valle McGrane, Scott, and Jody Fibelstad. He married Gayle (Haas) Spenner in June 1976. Together they raised Scott, Jody, and Gayle's two children, Jill Rivers (Spenner) and Jeffrey Spenner. He has 3 brothers, Paul Fibelstad, Vince Fibelstad, and Ron Berry along with one sister, Vera Hynes. Jerry has numerous nephews and nieces, and 3 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Jody, and his brother Paul. A memorial service will be held on March 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 710 E. 17th, Eugene, OR 97401. Memorials to be given to Grace Lutheran Church property board and Bristol Hospice. He will be greatly missed. Rest in our loving Savior's arms Jerry.
