Jerome Louis Hemry, 86, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2023 in Oklahoma City. Jerome (Jerry) was born in Oklahoma City on January 30, 1937 to Jerome Eldon Hemry and Martha Louise (Langston) Hemry. Jerry grew up playing in and around Shepard’s Farm on NW 27th street in OKC. Jerry attended Classen High School and graduated in 1955 going directly to OU for his business degree. In his 4th year at OU, he entered the OU Law School graduating from there in 1961 with his Juris Doctorate. Jerry then attended the University of Michigan and graduated in 1962 with his Masters of law. Jerry, already a 2nd lieutenant US Army Reserve, immediately after his University of Michigan graduation reported for active duty, was promoted to 1st lieutenant, and was then deployed with the 3rd Armored Division stationed in Germany working in the Quartermaster’s Corps from August 6, 1962, until July 19, 1964. He received an honorable discharge on June 11, 1965. Jerry very much enjoyed touring all over Europe in his time off the Army base, along with winter marching in the woods with his troops and being a volunteer scout master. Jerry returned from military service directly to Oklahoma City. Jerry then joined his father and uncle’s law firm Hemry and Hemry where he practiced until 2012, when he went to work for his son, Tom, and where he practiced law until his retirement in 2022. Jerry loved being an attorney most of all and revered the profession like no other. He was a 60-year member of the Oklahoma County Bar Association and served in the Rotary Club as its president and with the Classen Alumni Association. Jerry loved history, especially US war history, and avidly supported the armed services national museums that are around the US. In his later years, Jerry very much enjoyed reading, watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball, growing peaches, making preserves and jams, which he shared with many, and collecting coins and unique toy cars. Jerry is pre-deceased by his parents and his brother, Kenneth M. Hemry. Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda A. Hemry, and his sons, Stan, and Tom. Family graveside services were held for Jerry at Rose Hill Burial Park on Friday October 13, 2023. Please do not send flowers or gifts, but rather, give a gift to your favorite charity with the same spirit with which Jerry gave to so many.
