Jerome "Jerry" Wuerflein passed away on July 27 at St. John's Lutheran Community at the age of 89. A memorial service will be held at Round Prairie Lutheran Church on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 10:30 AM. Visitation shall be held from 5-7 PM at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home on Monday, August 4th, 2025 and for an hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Kent Otterman will be officiating.
Jerome George Wuerflein was born to Milford and Vione Wuerflein on January 4, 1936 in St. Paul, Minnesota. The following year, the family moved to Mansfield Township, where Milford became the buttermaker.
Jerome was baptized in St. Paul and later confirmed in Mansfield Lutheran Church in 1950. He attended District 87 country school through the eighth grade. He started ninth grade at Scarville High School, and then the family moved to Albert Lea. There he finished ninth grade. He then moved to Scarville, finishing high school while living with his grandmother, Minnie Wuerflein. During this time in his life, Jerry enjoyed working odd jobs for farmers, and enjoyed learning from his grandparents. He had fond memories of his childhood.
After high school, he met and married Audrey Nordland. They had five children; Milford, Clifford, Dawn, Jerome, and Tammy. Audrey and Jerry later divorced. in 1974, he married DeLoris Stensland Beaver. This union brought DeLoris's two daughters, Cindy and Sue, to the family. Jerome was very proud of his family.
Jerry's joy in life was time with his family and friends, and being active in the church, especially the Bible Study and prayer groups. In recent years, he enjoyed many activities with his special friend, Marilyn Polis.
Survivors include his sister, Frances Thompson, children, Clifford (Cindy) Wuerflein, Dawn (Mike) Kaderabek, Jerome (Gwen) Wuerflein, Tammy Wuerflein, and DeLoris's daughters, Cindy Odden and Suzi Stone (formerly Suzanne), 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special friend, Marilyn Polis.
Jerome is preceded in death by his parents, wife DeLoris, son Milford and daughter-in-law Janet, grandson Jesse Frohwein, sisters and brothers-in-law Maureen (Glenn) Ruble, and Julie (Gary) Vangen.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. John's Lutheran Community and St. Croix Hospice for their amazing care for Jerry.
