Jerome Matula Obituary
He would tell stories about how he'd walk 4 miles to school through cow pastures where he would be chased by bulls. He attended Crosby High School but did not graduate before being drafted into the army in 1945. He was discharged from the Army Reserves in 1953 and worked hard to receive his GED. He was hired as a ditch digger at ExxonMobil in 1948 (which was called Humble Oil and Refinery then). He retired after working there for 38 years as the supervisor of all hazardous waste contracts at the Baytown refinery. He also sold Catholic Life Insurance for 40 years where he received many awards and was named one of their 12 Apostles numerous times during his time with them.
He was a true and faithful servant of God as a devout Catholic, lector and extraordinary minister at St. Hyacinth parish for over 30 years.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family. He also loved hunting, going to his property in Flatonia where he'd spend weekends mowing, fixing fences and working his property. He was also an avid polka dancer and would go dancing with his wife Evelyn whenever he had the chance. They were known far and wide for being the best dancers around, appearing a few times on Molly B's Polka Party and were television "stars."
He is survived by Evelyn, his loving wife of 74 years, daughter Phyllis Rose, sons Myron Matula and Chris Matula, 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren (one due any day) and many nieces and nephews.
He touched so many lives in so many positive ways and will be missed.
