Jerome H. Schwartz, 88, of Freeport, IL passed away Saturday August 17, 2024 at FHN Memorial Hospital. He was born February 10, 1936 in Danube, MN to Henry James and Florence Rose (Fritz) Schwartz. He attended high school in Danube, Minnesota and 2 years of college at South Dakota State, where he played football, before transferring to the University of Minnesota and completing his studies in Veterinary Medicine. He would go on to open his own Animal Hospital in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. He never truly retired in his 60's leaving one profession to start another. He was quite the entrepreneur always looking for another venture. From selling coffee and bagels, Fuller Brush, Herbalife, and a host of other interesting products to finally to selling Insurance, where he would find his niche. He was a salesman and liked to talk to people, and being a medicare recipient himself, he dove right in, learned as much as possible and shared this information with others. His hobby was politics and the stock market. He always had a cold beer in the fridge to offer friends and family if they stopped by his home.
Jerry is survived by his five children, Deb (Michael) Hansen of Blaine, MN, Jim (René) Schwartz of Freeport, IL, Judy (Jeb) Clarin of Trade Lake, WI, Tom Schwartz of Bloomington, MN, and Andrea Gunderman of Naples, FL; wife Natalia and step-daughter Anastasiia Otiakovs'ka, both of Gurnee, IL; three siblings Arlene (Chet) Ewer of Fridley, MN, Darla (Lowell) Jakel of Danube, MN, and Vern (Karen) Schwartz of Prior Lake, MN; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday August 22, 2024 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, 504 North Walnut Avenue, Freeport, IL 61032, with Pastor Steve Rios officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory.
