Jerome L. Volkman left this world on August 10, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Karen, and their children Kristy (the late Ty "favorite son-in-law") Marienthal, Dean (Julia) Volkman, Trey Volkman (Ashley Folker), and Pearla Volkman (Mariner Wilder). Proud grandfather of his favorite team Cory Volkman, Molly (Jamie) Lohagen, Daren (Ashley Thomas) Marienthal, and Cody Marienthal. Great Grandpa of "Little Jay" Jaylen Lohagen.
Survived by brothers Eugene (late Rosemary) and James (Sandy). Also survived by sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Georgia, Mary (late Wayne), Judy (late Gerard), and Vern (Geri)
Survived by many special nieces and nephews who he loved dearly and who gave him the title of "favorite uncle."
Always Grandpa to Cindy Marienthal, J.D. Flitsch, Josh (Katie) Flitsch, Ashley Flitsch, and their children. Further survived by many friends, special friends Scott (Robin) Radtke and Diane Toye, cousins, and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his mother Pearl and father Earl, and sisters Darlene and Karen.
Jerry served in the US Army 1958-1961.
Professionally, Jerry spent many years working at American Can Company and Lisbon Storm and Screen Door where his hard work earned him the respect of his colleagues. His work as Umpire and Chief at Menomonee Falls Recreational Department, his strong work ethic, and his commitment were a reflection of his character and values.
Jerry spent many years playing, coaching, and umpiring softball in the Milwaukee area. He played on Milton Janes, Adelman Cleaners, Chris Corners, East Side TV, The 76'ers, Denny's on 35th, Four Seasons, Petroff's and Handeland Flooring. When playing, he always wore #13 (his lucky number). Some of his fondest memories were the years he coached his Handeland Flooring team. Winning City, County and State Championships, numerous tournaments in and out of Wisconsin with his "Guys," always starting a game with "WE GO!"
He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important - the simplicity of living a life with those you love.
Dad - you will be greatly missed, but we find comfort knowing that if there is a softball field in heaven, you are probably already on it. You are now pain-free and residing within your new Heavenly body.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Pastor Hougard and the compassionate staff of Aurora Home Hospice, Nurse Tiffany and Aide Marwill.
In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated for a memorial in Jerry's name.
