Jerrold Aberg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Koch Funeral Home - State College on Dec. 11, 2025.
Jerrold "Jerry" Burton Aberg died on December 8 at the age of 71.
Born on March 2, 1954 in Highland Park, IL, Jerry's early years were spent on Tussey Farm where he enjoyed walking in the corn fields, playing in the barn, and taking wagon rides.
In school, he ran cross country and was active in music and theater. The sounds of the 60s and 70s captured his imagination and he played guitar and flute in several bands of the era. He was fond of bike rides and long recalled cycling to Gettysburg with friends. As a teenager, his adventurous spirit led him to hitchhike across the country.
Jerry studied flute with Samuel Baron at Stony Brook after graduating from State College High School. Later, he lived and worked on his aunt's farm in Wisconsin.
Recognized for volunteering at the Schlow Library, he also enjoyed visiting museums and family and playing tennis. He was talented in drawing and took interest in art, history and maps. In his later years, Jerry liked being around different people and keeping informed about family. He was a member of Congregation Brit Shalom.
Jerry is survived by his siblings, Mimi Gavigan, Steven Aberg, Ethan Aberg, and Rachel Berrigan, and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Blossom (née Fisher) Aberg.
Jerry's family wishes to recognize the caring staff at Wynwood Salem Hill. They made his last years comfortable.
A private service will be held at Reform Congregation Oheb Sholom in Reading this Sunday.
Donations in Jerry's memory can be made to the Schlow Centre Region Library at and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
