Jerry Wayne Black

Mr. Jerry Black, age 84, passed away on February 20, 2022 at Willis Knighton Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Black was a native of Stamford, TX and a resident of Shreveport, LA for 49 years. He was an Army veteran, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner with El Maida and El Karubah Temples for over 50 years, becoming Potentate at the end of his tenure and then serving on the Board at the Shriners Hospital for 9 years, ultimately becoming Chairman of the Board. He also volunteered his services at the Shriners Hospital following his retirement. His professional career was in radio and TV advertising, which started in El Paso, TX and after moving to Shreveport, "Blackie", as many knew him partnered in KRMD Radio with Smokey Hyde, one of his closest friends. After they sold KRMD Radio Station, he went to work at KSLA TV as General Sales Manager, then finished his advertising career at JB Cable Ads. Smokey offered him an opportunity to open his own telecommunication stores in East Texas and from there, he went to work for Budget Prepay, which was the job he eventually retired from.
Blackie was preceded in death by his Father, George Black and his mother, Maurine Black.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Margaret J. Black of Shreveport, LA; daughter, Dawne Black Wieber and husband Joe of Prosper, TX; son, Danny Black and wife Laurie of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren, Cordell Rico, Breanna Black and Joshua Wieber; 2 great grandchildren and sister, Sue Offutt and husband Lee of Denver, CO.
To all of the people who knew him and worked with or for him, he was always ready to mentor, consult or give advice. His biggest pleasure was watching the people that he cared about succeed. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the children of the Shriners Hospital.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Kompelli, The Willis Knighton North ER Staff and the Willis Knighton North Critical Care Unit Staff, who took exceptional care of Blackie making sure he was comfortable during his final days.
As giving of himself to others, Blackie never liked anyone to make a fuss over him, so a private family service will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
