Jerry Lamar Bowen, age 84, of Callaway, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on April 17, 2025. Born on September 13, 1940, Jerry lived a full and vibrant life centered around faith, family and service to his community.
A lifelong outdoorsman, Jerry had a deep love for hunting, fishing and sports. He coached baseball at the Callaway Ballfields for his team "Dairy Queen" and "Callaway Commercial Bank" for many years and was also a local football referee and a flagman at various racetracks in the county.
His commitment to sports was only rivaled by his commitment to God, his family, his country and his community.
Jerry served honorably in the National Guard from 1960 to 1966. He later took on civic duties as City Commissioner of Callaway from 1978 to 1982, always seeking to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
A man of strong faith, Jerry served for many years as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at Parker Assembly of God Church. His faith guided his every step, and he was known for his wisdom, kindness, and devotion to the Lord.
He was very driven and had a very strong work ethic. Jerry began his work career at Panama Machinery and Supply Company as counter salesman before moving on to become the manager at Charles A. Born/Gorman Company. Following his time as manager, he took a position with Bell Supply and traveled extensively selling plumbing supplies throughout the region before his retirement.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Norma Bowen of 64 years and his children: Keith Bowen (Angie), Kevin Bowen (Robin), Kathy Mills (Danny), Kerry Bowen (Yvonne), and grandchildren: Tyler Bowen (Kristen),
Richard Bowen (Maegan), Devyn Jackson (Zack), Joshua Bowen (Deanna), Janna Greer (Justin), Courtney Dilao (Kristian), Daniel Mills, Josh Brady (Dawna), Amber Boggs (Daryl), Gabrielle Bowen and many great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy Bowen (Margaret) and his brother-in-law, Jerry Mullis(JoAnn) along with nieces and nephews: Kim Poston (Jim), Jim Bowen(Michelle), Jeremy Mullis, and Jenny Marcellis (Chad).
He is proceeded in death by his father, J. W. Bowen, mother, Annie Ruth Bowen and brother, Wayne Bowen.
Jerry's life was a testament of love, faith, service, and family. His legacy will continue through all who knew and loved him.
Homegoing services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Heritage Funeral Home in Callaway, Florida, with Pastor Keith Bowen and Pastor Curtis Kent officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM followed by the service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow immediately at Callaway Cemetery. A reception will be held at Gore Park at the old Callaway ballpark to conclude the celebration.
Honorary pallbearers are Keith Bowen, Kevin Bowen, Kerry Bowen, Danny Mills, Tyler Bowen, Richard Bowen, Joshua Bowen, Daniel Mills, Justin Greer, Zach Jackson.
