Jerry Wayne Cain

Jerry Wayne Cain left this world suddenly on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the age of 79. Jerry passed away peacefully at his home.
Born in Gulston, Kentucky, to the late Carlo and Jewel Cain, Jerry's early years were marked by the close-knit warmth of his family before they moved to Georgia, where he was raised. From a young age, Jerry exhibited a deep sense of duty and patriotism, values that guided him throughout his life. His service during the Vietnam War as a member of the 14th Vanguard with the 1st Infantry Division from 1965-1966 stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to his country. He served with honor and distinction, and his bravery will always be remembered with admiration.
After returning from his service, Jerry embarked on a fulfilling career with Ford Motor Company. Over more than two decades, he dedicated himself to his work, earning respect and recognition for his excellence and dedication. His colleagues remember him not only for his skill but for the kindness and integrity he brought to the workplace.
In retirement, Jerry found joy in simpler pleasures. He took solace in watching war movies, a nod to his past, and found comfort in the familiar rhythm of daytime television. His days were often spent reflecting on his experiences and enjoying the quiet moments of retirement.
Jerry was a proud member of American Legion Post 278 in Portland, Kentucky, where he found camaraderie and a shared sense of pride with fellow veterans. His participation in the Legion was a continuation of his lifelong commitment to his country and his fellow service members.
Jerry leaves behind a legacy of patriotism, dedication, and love. He is survived by his family, who will cherish his memory and the countless ways he touched their lives. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt, but his spirit and the lessons he imparted will continue to guide and inspire all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Janice.
Survivors include his son, Tony Cain (Beki); family friend, Donna McBay; siblings, Jimmy, Marvin Wilma (Ken), and Gayle; four grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be held 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Legacy Funeral Center – Schoppenhorst Chapel, 1832 W Market Street – Louisville. Funeral services in honor of his life will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the funeral home, with burial to occur at a later date.
