Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch
Jerry Michael "Mike" Davis, 76, of Olive Branch, MS, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home (6815 Parkview Blvd. Olive Branch, MS). A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. An internment will be in East Prairie, MO at a later date.
Mike was born on October 19, 1946 in East Prairie, MO, where he grew up on a farm with his parents, Irene and Albert Davis, and his brother Glenn, all of whom preceded him in death. He loved drag racing and had an impressive collection of trophies from winning races in Missouri, but his mom, Irene, always made sure that she had a faster car.
He moved to Memphis for college, then honorably served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the First Cavalry, and served as a Chinook helicopter mechanic during his time in Vietnam.
Afterwards, he came back to Memphis and joined the Memphis Fire Department, where the other firemen gave him the nickname "Dawg". He served there for thirty-two years. After retiring from the Fire Department, he joined the Desoto County MS Sheriff's Department.
He loved motorsports and spent many years racing his purple and pink Sprint car #00D, and when he had a good race, he'd often lead the fans in the stadium in a festive rendition of the Snoopy Dance.
Mike always felt that life was a quest for the perfect cheeseburger. He said that nothing could top Kersey's Burgers in his hometown of East Prairie, but he'd drive to the ends of the earth to find a hole-in-the wall burger joint, and he'd often gather his daughters and take off on the next great burger adventure.
After retiring from the DCSO, he spent his time exploring the country with his partner, Jane Thompson, who preceded him in death. When not traveling with Jane, he spent his time riding his motorcycle, fishing, babysitting his grandpuppies, and working as a part-time security guard at Jackpot Bingo Hall.
He leaves behind his three daughters, Kelly Davis, Shannon Davis, and Tarra Davis, and his two chosen daughters, Tiffany Leath Anderson and Betty Ajax.
In lieu of traditional flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jerry Michael Davis's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
In honor of Jerry Michael "Mike" Davis's service to our country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home the day of the services.
Online condolences can be made on his Tribute Wall at www.colemanfuneralhome.com.

Mike was a friend and classmate from East Prairie. We drifted apart after high school and Viet Nam but reconnected at our class reunions. I always though of Mike as a true friend. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers to his daughters and close friends.

A great father a great friend. I have been blessed to have known Mike for over 70 years. Have not known anyone more caring honest and polite.
We shared many phone conversations these past 10-15 years and was always a better person after each one.
Gone but not forgotten.
