Jerry Dean Glossup of Birthright, Texas was born October 23, 1934 in Cumby, Texas to Lester Glossup and Beatrice Deaton Glossup, but was raised in Emblem, Texas.
Jerry passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025 in Tyler, Texas. He graduated from North Hopkins High School in 1953, and married Shirley Beth Jones Glossup on June 11, 1955, she preceded him in death on January 3, 2020. Jerry retired from Rockwell International after 32 years, as well as Raytheon after 5 years. Jerry was a longtime faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church since 1959. Jerry served on the North Hopkins Cemetery Board of Directors for 34 years. Jerry loved to garden and share what he grew with others.
Jerry is survived by his two daughters, Deana Ragsdale (Danny) and Diane Glenn (Brent). Those who called him Papa, grandchildren, Dustin Ragsdale (Kaydi), Ryan Glenn (Catie), Dayla Burgin (Garon), and Colton Glenn (MacKenzie). He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Hagen Ragsdale, Tripp Glenn, Dallie Glenn, Mattie Burgin, Landon Burgin, Hattie Glenn, and Macie Glenn who also called him Papa. His favorite thing was watching his great-grandkids in their events whether it was rodeo, baseball, dance, livestock show, and anything else they participated in. He is also survived by one brother, Doyle Glossup (Hazel) and one sister-in-law, Lou Jane Drummond. In addition, he is survived by a special great niece and great-great niece, Kara and Kenna Lane, as well as several other special friends and family members.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, he was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Beatrice Deaton Glossup, as well as grandparents, Cleve and Rose Glossup, and Nando and Dora Deaton.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Clark and Brother Mike Eason officiating. Burial will follow at North Hopkins Cemetery with Dustin Ragsdale, Ryan Glenn, Colton Glenn, Garon Burgin, Jace Lane, and Steve Drummond serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Jones and Michael Hrabal, as well as the Wesleyan Class at Wesley United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral home in Sulphur Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
