Jerry L. Griffin

Jerry Lee Griffin (Jerry), 80, of LaGrange, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2023 in Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. He was born on July 3, 1943 in LaGrange to Homer Lee Griffin and Annie Sue Gibson Griffin. On December 1, 1979, Jerry married Phyllis Elaine Atkins and were married almost 44 years. Jerry loved and adored her and Elaine was devoted to him in every way.
He accepted Christ as a child at First Baptist Church in LaGrange and renewed his life to God at Oakside Baptist Church as an adult. He has been a faithful member and deacon at Western Heights Baptist Church for many years.
Jerry genuinely had a good heart. He was so proud of all his children, grandchildren, and great grands. He worried about them no matter what age they had become. Prayers were always going up to his Heavenly Father every evening. Jerry was a dog lover. He loved them dearly and firmly believed he would see them again in Heaven one day.
His hobbies included fishing, western movies including any and every movie starring John Wayne. It was a daily treat for him to watch The Price is Right. Genealogy remained a hobby of his throughout his adult life. He enjoyed finding his heritage and distant relatives. Jerry liked to tell the occasional joke to just about anyone who walked in his house. "Did your Mama have any kids that lived?" would be asked of all his children's friends. Another interest he had was collecting old historical artifacts. Some things may appear as junk to someone else, but he had a story to tell about every treasure he had collected.
Jerry was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Griffin, of LaGrange; sons, Lee (Trindi) Griffin, of LaGrange, Gary (Christy) Atkins, of Forsyth, GA; and daughters, Janet (Mike) Baggett, Dublin, GA,; Bonnie (Sid) Glass, of Macon, GA; Tiffany (Latoya) Griffin, of Columbus, GA, Courtney (Johnny) Pitts, of Valley, AL, grandchildren Matthew, Shelby, Amber, Garrett, Collin, Taylor, Jacob, Trea, Lucas, Ben, William, Parker, Wyatt, and Lily; great-grands Kadience, Jaylen, DaKariah, Madison, Anna Charles, Emersyn, Skylar, Cooper, Max, Dean and Callie as well as his Aunt Christine Wortham.
A memorial service will be held at Western Heights Baptist Church at 2382 W Point Road, LaGrange, GA on Saturday, September 16 at 12:00 pm, preceded by visitation at 11:00 am. Immediately following the service, the family will gather for a meal provided by the church. Flowers are welcomed or contributions to the Food Pantry Ministry at Western Heights Baptist Church.
