Jerry Guire Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Arner Funeral Chapel - Chester on Mar. 29, 2026.
Jerry L. Guire, 87, of New Cumberland, cast his final line into the great beyond from the Stone Pear Pavilion on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Born beneath the wild skies of Mabie, West Virginia, on November 17, 1938, Jerry was the cherished son of Alex and Peggy P. Huff Guire.

He honed his craft at Homer Laughlin China before turning a keen inspector's eye at Crucible Steel in Midland, where he worked until his well-earned retirement in 1982.

Whether tracking deer through autumn woods, coaxing tomatoes from stubborn soil, or patiently casting his line in quiet streams, Jerry's passions were as boundless as the outdoors he loved. His fishing tales-told with a twinkle in his eye-were legendary among family and strangers alike. Jerry served his country proudly with the US Army's 11th Airborne Division from September 1956 to September 1958 and was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Zachary Guire, his great-grandson, Wyatt Godfrey, his sisters, Barbara Fox and JoAnn Rosier, and his sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Harris, Evelyn Fee, and Leona Pingley.

Jerry's greatest catch in life was his beloved wife of 64 years, Anita V. Davis Guire, whom he married on February 3, 1962. Together, they built a lasting legacy, raising their children-Connie (David) Foltz of New Cumberland, Jerry (Kathleen) Guire of Terra Alta, WV, Perry Guire of New Cumberland, and Chris (Edith Hall) Guire of Abbyville, SC. His family tree flourished with seventeen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren, each a bright thread in the tapestry of his life. Jerry's stories, jokes, and gentle wisdom will echo in the hearts of David, Matt, Katie, Audrey, Amerey, Damian, Gregory, Hunter, Ania, Rafal, Shauna, Jordan, Christopher, Emily, Nathaniel, Noah, and the newest great-granddaughter, arriving in July, along with Fae, Ryan, Juliana, Wesley, Cecelia, Moira, Glenna, Louisa, Andrina, John Paul, Douglas, Dixie, Theo, Sam, Lucy, John, Ned, Robin, Merrick, Dominic, Neamiah, Charlie, Wrenley, Scarlett, Istelle, Jedidiah, Easton, Mason, and Tanner.

Pastor Tim Bess will celebrate Jerry's life at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Wednesday, April 1st, at 4:00 p.m. Friends may visit with his family two hours before the service on Wednesday, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
