Jerry “IKE� Hartman Jerry “Ike� Hartman, 76, of South Charleston, passed away, March 28, 2011 at Hubbard Hospice House, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jered Lee Pyles; parents, Fred and Mildred Hartman; brothers, Donald, Whitey, and Red Hartman; sisters, Suzanne Lore, Margaret Ellen and Naomi. Ike was a 1953 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School where he excelled in football and participated in all other sports. He attended Morris Harvey College, after which he played for the Charleston Rockets. He was in the asphalt paving business in the Kanawha Valley area working for various companies for 40 years, and was the former owner/operator of Hartman Fitness Center. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley McLaughlin Hartman; children, Kerry Lynn Pyles and husband, Rick of Columbus, Ohio, and Jerry Alan Hartman of Concord, North Carolina; grandchildren, Melissa Salmon, Tori Pyles, Lindsey Pyles, Lauren Hartman, and Alec Hartman; great grandson, Marcus Salmon; brothers, George Hartman of St. Albans, and Paul Hartman of Culloden; sister, Susan Wiseman of Winfield. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ron Stoner officiating. Burial will be in Haven of Rest Cemetery, Hometown. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Shirley wishes to express sincere thanks to Herb Fitzsimmons, Mae Harkins, and Debbie Lore. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Boulevard, W., Charleston, WV 25387-2536.
