Jerry Hurlbutt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Niles on Mar. 13, 2026.
Jerry Ray Hurlbutt, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, left this world peacefully on March 10, 2026, in Mishawaka, Indiana, completing a life that began in Niles, Michigan, on July 9, 1947.

Jerry was the beloved husband of Linda (Cortright) Hurlbutt, with whom he shared a loving marriage since their wedding day in San Antonio, Texas on November 8, 1969. He was a devoted son to his predeceased parents, Melvin Hurlbutt and Eunice (Tuesley) Hurlbutt. His legacy continues through his children, Kim (Chad) Poole, and their children Owen and Lainey, and Jason (Christine) Hurlbutt, and their children Braiden and Avery. Jerry also leaves behind his brother, Bruce Hurlbutt.

An honorable veteran of the Air Force, Jerry's dedication to his country was a proud facet of his character. He later transitioned to a rewarding career at Cook Nuclear Plant, where his hard work, reliability, and camaraderie made him a respected figure among his peers. In the workplace as in all areas of his life, Jerry's integrity and warm-hearted nature shone brightly.

Fishing was more than a hobby for Jerry; it was a passion. His favorite place being Magician Lake in Sister Lakes, Michigan, where he spent countless serene hours with rod and reel, fostering a love for the great outdoors that he would pass down to his children and grandchildren. This profound love for nature was equally matched by his love for Notre Dame sports and the thrill of following his grandchildren's sporting events, each game a chance to share his spirited encouragement and pride.

In lieu, of flowers, memorial donations in Jerry's name may be made to Ernestine M. Raclin Hospice Center for Hospice Foundation to pediatrics in Mishawaka, Indiana.
