Rodney Hurlbutt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnston & Stanimer Funeral Home - Morris on Oct. 1, 2025.
New Berlin
Rodney (Rod) Hurlbutt, 78, passed away at his home in New Berlin, NY on Friday, September 19, 2025, in his quiet way.
Rod was the son of Frederick and Mary Hurlbutt, born on October 22, 1946, at their home.
Rod grew up in South Edmeston, graduating from New Berlin Central High School, and
attended Utica School of Commerce college.
Rod was employed at Kraft Foods in South Edmeston after college where he worked in the office administration department. Upon retirement Rod traveled some and would make yearly hunting trips out west. Golf became a weekly event with his golfing buddies, which he so enjoyed. His first love of sports was basketball, and he would always be ready to shoot a few hoops with his nephews in his early years, New York was his home, and his happy times were watching two of his favorite sports teams, the NY Yankees and NY Giants. He was happy to share his thoughts on those teams and how they were doing.
Rod was a great brother, uncle and friend to all he met. He was the quiet one but a great one to chat and laugh with. Family gatherings he enjoyed but he loved his quiet times away from the noise.
His favorite meal was a peanut butter sandwich and diet Pepsi, and he loved to make a mean meatloaf from time to time. According to Rod a tv dinner wouldn't be a bad idea.
The time spent with Rod was very special to his family and friends. He was always available to lend a hand when needed or share your thoughts with. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was a brother to Nancy Gennosa, Gregory "Greg" and William "Bill" Hurlbutt. Brother-in-law to Blanche and Stacey Hurlbutt. An Uncle to Elizabeth (Kenneth) Smith, Christine (Patrick) Klee, Amy (Shane) Collins, Anita Gennosa, Josh Hurlbutt and Bryan (Jennifer) Hurlbutt.
A Great Uncle to his nieces and nephews, Alison Klee (Josh), Braedyn Hurlbutt, Rachael Hurlbutt, Brynne Hurlbutt, Reghan Hurlbutt, Tierney Hurlbutt, Asher Collins and Noelle Collins. Special friends Ronald Holl and Connie Fullington.
Deceased parents are Fredrick and Mary Hurlbutt, brother Greg Hurlbutt, brother-in-law Joseph Gennosa, nephews Richard and Josh Hurlbutt.
Family and friends are invited to visitation hours on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. at the South Edmeston Community Church, 4259 County Hwy 18 South Edmeston, NY 13411 with his funeral service to immediately follow. Rod will then be buried in Gazlay Cemetery, South Edmeston directly following the service. Family and friends will be invited to a lunch in at the South Edmeston Community Center.
Rod's family has entrusted his care to Edd Stanimer of the Johnston & Stanimer Funeral Home in Morris, NY. For online condolences to his family, visit www.JohnstonFH.com.
