James L. Hurlbutt, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather, was reunited with the love of his life on December 15, 2025.

James, 78, was born December 13, 1947, in Jersey Shore PA, where he proudly lived, built his home & raised his family.

James was a PVT in the Army National Guard for 7 years. He was a hard-working dedicated carpenter for 44 years. He worked at Haven Homes, Avis Homes and in his free time various jobs for friends and family. When Jim was not busy woodworking in his shop he could be found camping, playing cards and drinking beer with friends and family.

Jim was married to his beloved wife Margaret for 55 years before she passed, but he kept her close at heart till his passing.

After retiring Jim & Margaret spent the cold months in sunny Zephyrhills, Florida. Jim would often comment that they got 9 fun years of retirement in before he started his battle with Parkinson.

The loss of James will be deeply felt by his two daughters, Misty (Harry) Miller and Kimberly (Frank) Mertes. He is also survived by his brother John (Kathy) Hurlbutt of Spring Hill, Florida whom he looked forward to their visits or Sunday video calls. Jim's memory will be cherished by his grandchildren: Lindsay (Joe), Damian (Heather), Adam (Brianna), Joshua, Taylor, Madigan (Jack) & Harrison. He was also blessed with great grandchildren: Landon, Anderson, David, Everett, Zander, Mykenna, Benjamin, Nellie & Asher.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the nurses and aides at the Nippenose Valley Village and especially to the Hospice (palliative) team for their compassionate, loving care.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St, Jersey Shore. Please feel free to leave fond memories and condolences for the family at www.rearickcarpenter.com.

Services to celebrate Jims's life will be held privately. As he is laid to rest the family finds comfort in knowing that Jim will be remembered by many.
