Jerry Katz Obituary
Publish in a newspaper
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Oakridge Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to time of service, Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to the Effingham County Humane Society or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Jerry was born July 22, 1939 in Effingham, the son of Robert and Ivanel (Babbs) Katz. He married Patricia Jo "Pat" Monical on June 25, 1967. Jerry worked for many years as a pressman for World Color Press, was a long-time member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham, and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Pat of Effingham; son, Jerry (Cyndee) of Clay City; grandsons, Nick Katz and Tyler (McKenna) Katz; great-grandchildren, Reeve and Miller; sister, Pat Miller and brother-in-law, Leon (Carol) Monical.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ron Katz.

I want to express my condolences to Jerry's family. He had such an important role in the early days of the Effingham County Museum. I shall always remember his cheerful spirit and how he used his incredible mechanical talent in volunteer work whenever there were problems at the 1872 building. He worked at making the Museum an attractive place physically, whether by general carpentry skills, carpet laying, and/or a wide variety of "handyman" tasks. When he and I served as docents, I enjoyed seeing how well he interacted with visitors as he made them feel welcome. Jerry contributed so much to the Museum's success during its first decade.
